A Thousand Tiny Choices

February 27, 2014 By LeeAnn G. Taylor

Sometimes I think I need a daily alarm.

You know, the annoying kind that goes “BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP” until you finally pay attention and slam your hand down to shut it off with the kind of gusto you can only manage at 6am on a Monday. That kind of alarm.

Otherwise I forget.

I forget that the sum of my life is made up of a thousand tiny choices.

  • Do I stay calm when my 4 year old won’t put on her clothes and get ready for preschool…again?
  • Do I go to bed on time so I can have the quiet time I so desperately need with God each morning?
  • Do I remember to pray…to really pray…for my friend who specifically asked for me to intercede on her behalf?
  • Do I speak my husband’s love language by being physically intimate with him when all I really feel like doing is crawling under the warm sheets and dozing off?

It’s the tiny choices that make a life.

What will you choose?

Will you choose to remember that we are what we repeatedly do and that we have the power to choose.

Every day, we have the power to choose to live free.

Free from others’ {and our own!} expectations.

Free from the past {and fears of what the future may hold}.

What tiny choice will you make today that will set you on the path of freedom in your life? Share in the comments and let’s encourage one another!

*This post is part of Lisa-Jo Baker’s 5 Minute Friday series, where she empowers bloggers to write for 5 minutes each Friday on a specific topic. Free writing. Writing just for the sheer joy of it. Today’s topic was “Choose“. I’m also sharing at Beauty Observed, Essential Fridays, God’s Girl, Friendship Fridays and Fridays Unfolded.

Oh, yes, choosing to go to bed on time so I can get up for quiet time in the morning. I’ve so struggled with this recently! Thanks, LeeAnn, for encouraging us all to make the small choices that lead to the bigger choices we all need to make.

So true, our whole lives are summed up in tiny choices strung together. I love how it makes us think about the things we do but also how it makes us value the small things instead of chasing after the huge things.

I found myself in every. single. point. you. made. You are right. Thank you for the reminder we have the choice to LIVE FREE. That’s what Christ died for. Somedays I forget that. I appreciate your heart and your words tonight. Hugs from a fellow NC sister and new friend. 😀

Love this! Yes – we forget how much power we have when we forget that all along our busy days, we are choosing!

I love that one word takes us all in different directions – all of which can speak to our hearts. Love it! I love the quote. May I choose to make excellence a habit starting today. So glad that I visited from Essential Fridays!

I will choose to work on my taxes for an hour (I detest doing my taxes, but my daughter needs her FAFSA turned in as soon as possible, so I need to quit stalling!).

I love your post, and the quote, and the depth of wisdom and truth here. Being intentional about how I spend my time, instead of reacting in knee-jerk habit is sometimes a challenge, but so worth the effort! Thank you!

So true. I especially struggle with the last. We truly do have to take a deep breathe and consciously decide what to do with our day and what mood to set for it. Very well said in few words. You have a gift!

How I choose to react to the requests and even demands of others is crucial to how smoothly and peacefully my day goes. Sometimes I actually cringe when others ask me to pray for them because I am ashamed to say that I’m so very likely to forget. Thanks for linking this post up to FF!

This is an amazing reminder on how all of our choices (even the small ones) affect are entire lives. Thank you for reminding me because with everything that my week entails, I sometimes forget. 🙂
