To Restore Your Soul {A Sunday Scripture}

September 21, 2014 By LeeAnn G. Taylor

Yesterday as I sat through the funeral service of a dear friend and former co-worker, I was reminded of the power of this passage of scripture.

May these words restore your soul today as you reflect on God’s presence in your life, protection over your life, and provision for your life.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.

He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.

He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.

    I love Psalm 23 for its simplicity yet complexity. The words of comfort that are laced throughout the Psalm always provides that calm and peace that are needed. Thank for the reminder of this today.

      Yes, that’s how I felt at the funeral. The simple and familiar words all of the sudden were complex and deep and I cried tears of gratefulness that God would have David pen the words for us to read even now. Grace and blessings for sure.
